Experimental designs

Subjective testing programmes are undertaken to serve one or more of the purposes described in Section 2. The choice of a particular experimental design is dependent on the objectives of the experiment(s) involved in the testing programme. Experiments should be designed in accordance with the goals or purposes of the subjective testing programme, and organized so that the results derived from the tests will satisfy those goals. Proper use of design elements and design principles ensures that the results of subjective experiments are both reliable and valid for the goals and purposes of the testing programme.
