Child online protection is a global challenge requiring a global approach. Many efforts to improve child online protection are already under way. However, their reach has been more national than global, thus far. ITU launched the child online protection (COP) initiative in November 2008 as a multi-stakeholder effort within the global cybersecurity agenda (GCA) framework bringing together partners from all sectors of the global community to create a safe and empowering online experience for all children. In order to establish the foundation for a safer and more secure cyber world for future generations, ITU in collaboration with COP prepared guidelines ready to be adapted and adopted by all stakeholders: children, parents, guardians, educators and industry policy makers.
